The Recipe

Are you a Distribution Planning Specialist or a Strategic Planning Manager currently working in the fast-paced world of Distribution, and looking for your next challenge? We have a newly created opportunity that will support and revolutionise our approach to distribution planning and technology, and will work collaboratively to provide a strategic, longer-term approach to driving our future.

Working alongside our Head of Strategy & Planning, you will drive efficiencies, process improvements, and adopt best practice in route optimisation technology whilst ensuring we are fit for the future across our UK wide depot and distribution network.

With a fleet of over 900 vehicles we are one of the biggest independent distribution networks in the UK and are proud to be delivering our freshly baked products daily to over 17,000 customer stores across the UK. Keeping our nations eggs in soldiers since 1876.

Key Accountabilities and Measures

As an experienced Distribution Planning Specialist, you will be able to identify key areas for improvement within the distribution operation using data, trends, and key performance indicators to manage positive change and transformation. You will take the lead on planning technology, and as an expert in route optimisation software, you will support, enhance and improve current route planning processes and systems, and help to build our future logistics model to support our 5-year business plan. This is an incredible opportunity for you to make an impact, drive change and transformation through the application of new technologies and new ways of working.

You will also have strategic influence across the broader logistics network and therefore be passionate about the future of our business, be able to work cross functionally and maximise efficiencies and improvements, as well as identifying areas of opportunity and solutions to enhance and improve. You will be able to analyse and interpret data trends and provide insights for operations optimisation, supporting our teams with a continuous improvement outlook.

We will continue to evolve and adapt to our customers’ needs, remaining flexible in our approach, and this role will be key to supporting the overall development of distribution planning and operational route management processes and systems.

Essential Ingredients

  • Significant experience gained in operational transport planning management in a multi-site, multi-drop short order lead time FMCG business
  • Experience to super user level in distribution planning/route optimisation software, ideally Paragon
  • Experience in distribution and network solution design skills
  • Excel user to an advanced level with superb data interpretation and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of current road transport and working time/drivers’ hours legislation
  • Experience of SAP distribution and warehousing modules
  • Some project management experience, ideally in the logistics sector
  • Be able to work cross functionally and collaboratively, using a data driven approach to identify improvement opportunities, provide solutions, and implement changes
  • Be able to present proposals in a clear, unambiguous way to gain support and commitment
  • Extensive UK travel (requiring a full UK driving licence), to support the national distribution operation, and the ability to function as part of a geographically dispersed team
