The Recipe

To support the packaging team with delivery of packaging trials for core, ideation, innovation launches in addition to cost saving initiatives. To be the lead on packaging data collection, analysis and reporting.

Key Accountabilities and Measures

  • Support projects with implementation of new packaging for Innovation, Core & Third party launches as required
  • To support the implementation of new packaging for all NPD product launches and changes to pack formats. 
  • Trial of materials in initial stages in R & I Centre 
  • Attendance at packaging production trials, bakery trials and first production runs, as required
  • Oversee any packaging incidents or issues which affect bakery performance, supporting other incidents as required. Ensuring fast and appropriate resolution, to ensure that production is not compromised and continuity is maintained.
  • Taking personal responsibility for packaging performance and supporting the Packaging Quality Manager to ensure that all bakeries have access to the packaging expertise they need on site– through providing supplier training if necessary. Ensure that sufficient and appropriate on-site liaison, advice and help is available as required, from the packaging department and their suppliers.
  • To lead either the collection of packaging data to relevant submissions for Taxes / PRN’s / EPR, PPWR etc
  • Collation and provision of data for Customer reporting (Valpak etc) OR the Gluten Free Packaging support function, testing, trialling and taking ownership of Gluten Free Packaging projects and ongoing performance.
  • Support the packaging specification and data gathering processes as required
  • Maintaining samples and photographs of our competitive set, linking into the wider Quality team and DWT assessments

Essential Ingredients

  • Experience gained in FMCG, within a packaging technologist / artwork & repro role.
  • Has gained, or is working towards the IOP / IOM3 Packaging Technology diploma or industry equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of BRC 9 Audit requirements.
  • Experience of working with Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence Standards.
  • Industry Knowledge: Materials knowledge, Experience of manufacturing processes, packaging machinery and products can affect wrapping / bagging performance; H&S/food safety systems and legislation knowledge; knowledge of food contact material regulations and requirements.
  • Commercial Awareness: Can demonstrate a good understanding of the customer and their requirements / constraints.
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills: Influential and persuasive.
  • Excellent relationship builder- establishing credibility with both internal and external contacts at all levels.
  • IT knowledge – able to use widespread functions within relevant programmes and software.
