The People Projects Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective programme and project governance across the People Team. The role ensures that strategic people initiatives are planned, prioritised, tracked, and delivered in line with business objectives.
Working across the People portfolio, the People Projects Manager provides visibility of progress, risks, dependencies, resources, budgets, and benefits, enabling People leaders to make informed decisions and deliver sustainable change. Key Accountabilities and Measures
- People Portfolio Management: Own and maintain the People change portfolio, ensuring all programmes, projects and strategic initiatives are accurately captured, prioritised and aligned to business objectives. Provide leadership with a clear view of progress, dependencies, risks and overall portfolio health to support effective decision-making.
- Governance: Establish and maintain effective governance frameworks, ensuring all People initiatives operate within agreed standards, controls and reporting requirements. Coordinate governance forums and provide assurance that risks, issues and delivery challenges are identified, managed and escalated appropriately.
- Planning and Delivery Support: Support project and programme leads to develop robust delivery plans and ensure progress is actively monitored against agreed milestones, timelines and objectives. Facilitate collaboration across teams to manage dependencies and remove barriers to successful delivery.
- Reporting, Analytics and Insight: Provide accurate, timely and insightful portfolio reporting that enables People leaders and stakeholders to understand delivery performance, make informed decisions and take appropriate action. Drive continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of reporting and management information.
- Resource and Capacity Management: Maintain oversight of resource allocation and capacity across the People portfolio, ensuring leaders have a clear understanding of delivery capability, competing priorities and resource constraints. Support effective planning and prioritisation to maximise successful delivery.
- Financial and Benefits Management: Provide oversight of portfolio budgets, investment tracking and benefits realisation, ensuring financial information is accurate and that expected business outcomes are measured, monitored and reported throughout the lifecycle of initiatives.
- Excellence and CI: Lead the development and continuous improvement of PMO standards, tools and ways of working, embedding a culture of accountability, consistency and delivery excellence across the People function while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and automation.
- Stakeholder Management and Communication: Build trusted relationships with People leaders, project sponsors and business stakeholders, acting as a key point of coordination and ensuring clear communication of priorities, progress, risks and decisions across the People portfolio.
Essential Ingredients
- Significant experience in PMO, programme management, or portfolio management roles with a People/HR Function, specifically with high levels of change management.
- Experience of organisational change and transformation programmes.
- Strong governance, planning, reporting, and risk management expertise with experience producing executive-level reporting and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across a diverse portfolio.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with an ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Builds trusted relationships and works collaboratively.
- PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, APM, or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Project, Planner, or portfolio management tools.
- Knowledge of HR technology, ideally SAP SuccessFactors.
