Sustainability Project Engineer
**NATIONWIDE Opportunity**
Location: Hybrid role which can be based at any one of our UK Bakery sites dependant on your location, some travel to Bolton for Team meetings.
Salary: Circa 65,000 dependant on experience
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday Days based
Are you a Project Engineer or Engineering or Maintenance Manager with experience of project delivery and a knowledge of energy consultancy / sustainability?
Due to our continued growth and significant investment in sustainability and renewable energy we have created a new role for an experienced Project Engineer with a passion for Sustainability. Working as part of our Project Engineering team within the Manufacturing Excellence Dept. You’ll drive our 5-year energy and carbon reduction sustainability strategy. The Project Engineering Team are dedicated to executing Engineering projects throughout the UK bakery and depot network from Aberdeen to Newton Abbot, therefore you’ll be fully mobile and able to travel as required.
The Recipe
As the Sustainability Project Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering sustainability-focused projects within our food manufacturing environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including site leadership, engineering, and the Manufacturing Excellence team to implement cutting-edge solutions that drive efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower carbon emissions.
As part of our Project Engineering team, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of all agreed engineering projects on time, to agreed standards and on budget ensuring that Continuous Improvement is embedded every time.
We never compromise on Health & Safety or Quality therefore you’ll be responsible to drive our Health and Safety strategy, legislation and company standards in all project work as a priority.
The Role
- Identify, engage and manage the 3rd Party Vendor community associated to Project Delivery and Nationwide Maintenance
- Identify, manage and deliver key sustainability projects such as:
Installation of new oven technology to improve energy efficiency
Upgrading old and inefficient control systems
Integration of renewable energy solutions (solar, wind, and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants)
Investigate and implement innovative technologies to support sustainability goals
- Collaborate with the sustainability team to align projects with corporate sustainability objectives
- Work alongside site leadership and engineering managers to ensure smooth project execution
- Ensure awareness of Technology improvements and apply to projects as applicable to drive efficiency improvements and ensure Best Practice.
- To negotiate and purchase items of machinery for major projects in those areas agreed with the Head of Project Engineering
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and sustainability certifications
- To support the identification and implementation of a new Energy management system
Essential Ingredients
- As you will support our sites across the UK, you’ll require a valid driving licence.
- Proven project management experience within engineering
- Electrical / mechanical Engineering Background; Electrical bias preferred
- Ability to drive performance and energy cost savings and efficiencies through data analysis
- Able to identify and drive energy efficiencies and carbon reduction opportunities
- Knowledge or experience of Energy Management Systems (EMS) would be desirable but not essential
- Experienced in Key stakeholder management with the ability to influence, establishing credibility with both internal and external contacts at all levels
- Budget creation and management experience ensuring a return on investment
- H&S/Food Safety systems & legislation knowledge e.g. IOSH – able to ensure a safe working environment.
- Works collaboratively to make decisions with the input of the wider team
- Possess an Engineering Qualification such as HND, HNC, BEng or equivalent
