The Recipe

Implement the Unbeatable Quality Strategy to ensure Warburtons manufactures and distributes products to the required standard and in accordance with the Warburtons Quality Management System (QMS).  

To act as the food/ feed safety and hygiene lead at sites to Manufacturing and Distribution teams to ensure processes are optimised using proactive activities, evidence-led data, continuous improvement techniques and measured by company KPIs.

5 days a week onsite. 

Our Bristol Bakery and Distribution depot is located at Severn Beach, near Bristol. You’ll find us a 15-minute drive from the M5 and 10 minutes from Severn bridge if you’re heading over the bridge from Wales (Toll Free)!

We have 3 state of the art manufacturing plants and Bristol Bakery is the proud home to one of our latest innovations, The Bagel! 

Bristol manufacture and distribute over 12 different types of bakery products producing over 160,000 units of freshly baked products to delight families across the UK. 

With nearly 500 colleagues and over 21 different nationalities, working a variety of different shift patterns, the bakery runs 363 days of the year, 24/7.

      Bristol is also a dedicated Driver Training Centre and Distribution hub!

Key Accountabilities and Measures

  • Lead and enable the site (s) activities in delivering unbeatable quality products working in collaborative partnership with site and Centre Quality colleagues.
  • Act as the food/feed safety and hygiene subject matter expert to lead the sites in achieving and improving compliance standards.
  • To identify opportunities and development plans for improvements and achieve within agreed timescales.
  • Implement and manage the food/feed safety and hygiene standards in the Quality Management System to ensure that all relevant standards are achieved.
  • As part of the Manufacturing Leadership Team, contribution to the generation and delivery of national and local strategies.
  • To work in collaboration with the Technical Manager to manage all internal (site and inter-site) and external audits, including relevant regulatory body interventions. 
  • To manage suppliers of services & products that can impact hygiene.  
  • To ensure at site that all employees understand the importance of food/feed safety and hygiene at site(s). 
  • To lead, motivate, coach and develop Compliance team member(s) to achieve the plans, goals and targets set.

Essential Ingredients

  • Experience in managing food/feed safety and hygiene function at a food company (ideally within FMCG sector). 
  • Science/food-based background with food technology qualifications or similar.
  • Quality management systems Lead Auditor / Auditor qualifications. 
  • Minimum Level 4 HACCP & Food Safety qualifications.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of food microbiology. 
  • Passed Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management.
  • Trained and competent in COSHH & IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Proven track record quality systems and external standards implementation.  
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • HS&E, food/feed Safety, hygiene systems and legislation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methodologies and the application of cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.

Desirable 

  • Understanding of CIP systems, risks and optimisation opportunities.
  • Knowledge of SAP ERP applications. 
  • Knowledge of industrial bakery processes: plant, product, ingredient functionality and process technology.
