Multi-Skilled Engineer
Location: Newburn, Newcaslte
Shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off, 12 hour shifts
Salary: £57,014 per annum + Overtime + Annual Profit-Related Bonus

We’re looking for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our team in Newburn. Ideally, you’ll bring a strong mix of electrical and mechanical engineering skills, although an electrical bias would be particularly welcome.
And there’s plenty to get stuck into. You’ll be working within a modern food manufacturing environment, in our newly rebuilt Gluten Free facility, helping us keep our equipment safe, reliable and performing at its best.
The Recipe
No two shifts are quite the same.
You’ll work alongside our Production, Safety and Hygiene teams, using your engineering know-how to find faults, fix problems and, importantly, look for ways of stopping them happening again.
You’ll be involved in:
- Planned and preventative maintenance
- Electrical and mechanical fault finding
- Improving equipment reliability and reducing downtime
- Using data and root cause analysis to find long-term solutions
- Working with automated equipment, processing and packaging systems
- Supporting continuous improvement across the site
- Sharing ideas and engineering expertise with the wider team
The Method
- Ensure all engineering activities undertaken are compliant to internal & external standards including Health & Safety legislation, identifying any required actions so that the area of responsibility is healthy, safe and accident free.
- Responsible for executing fault finding and maintenance through RCM and CBM activities. Driving improvements in asset reliability and reduction in losses.
- Adheres to site specific machinery procedures to ensure safe and efficient asset maintenance, contributing to the continuous improvement of operational performance.
- Drive a proactive Engineering Continuous Improvement culture - Contributing to the improvement and development of maintenance activities & standard operating procedures.
- Compliance with quality and food safety legislation, company standards and specifications in order to meet the requirements of professional and legal standards.
Essential Ingredients
We’re looking for an Engineer who enjoys getting to the bottom of a problem and takes pride in doing things properly.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- A recognised engineering qualification, such as an Apprenticeship, HNC, BTEC or equivalent
- Multi-skilled engineering experience across electrical and mechanical disciplines
- Strong electrical fault-finding capability
- Experience within manufacturing or FMCG
- A good understanding of planned and preventative maintenance
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- An understanding of PLCs and control systems would be a real advantage but is not essential
- A practical approach to Health & Safety and Food Safety
