The Recipe
As a key member of the Asset Care team, you will play a central role in delivering the site’s Maintenance Plan and ensuring the effective day‑to‑day management of our days-based engineering team. This position combines hands‑on technical involvement with proactive leadership, driving high standards of safety, reliability, and performance across all maintenance activities. You’ll champion best practice, support continuous improvement, and help create a culture where our engineers can thrive and the site can operate at its best.
The Role
We’re looking for a leader who will champion safety across all engineering activities, ensuring full adherence to relevant standards for both internal teams and external contractors. You will lead a team of days-based Engineers, driving capability through effective training plans, individual development, and regular performance reviews. In this role, you’ll take ownership of resource management for the Days shift, ensuring the allocation, delivery, and quality of all engineering tasks that support plant reliability, product quality, and safety in line with our Engineering Strategy and company standards. Strong communication is essential, as you’ll be responsible for maintaining seamless handovers between days and shift-based Engineering teams. You will also oversee contractor activity to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of work. Above all, you will uphold compliance with quality and food safety legislation, company standards, and specifications to meet all professional and legal requirements
Essential Ingredients
- Desirable – Food & Drink Advanced Engineering L5 Apprenticeship;
- Desirable - Eng Tech Standard Accredited
- Structured and practical engineering training (e.g. apprenticeship/HNC/degree).
- Knowledge and experience of maintenance in an FMCG environment.
- H&S/Food Safety systems & legislation knowledge e.g. IOSH – able to ensure a safe working environment.
- IT knowledge – able to use widespread functions within relevant software inc. Microsoft Office, SAP and PLCs
- Communication skills – articulate/develops effective, long-term relationships with key people.
- Coaching & Mentoring skills – takes responsibility for training & coaching of Team Members
- Analysing and problem-solving skills – anticipates problems before they occur, takes steps to deal with them/correctly & swiftly identifies the underlying problem & appropriate solutions, based on analysis of data
- Decision making skills – works collaboratively to make decisions with the input of the wider team
